THE WHAT

Hardwired for Contentious Development is a storytelling game about having bodies, disability, and the challenges of life set in a future where there are devices, medicines, and other forms of help that don't always help.

Designed for: 1+ players
Uses: Writing materials, 2d6 (two standard six-sided dice)

Made for the Minimalist TTRPG Jam 3, this a stripped down game that includes only the absolute necessities to make this game work using a template provided by the jam. This is the final product. It will not be later updated with pretty graphics or other such frills. It is plain by design.

THE WHY

The TTRPG scene for game makers feels like it's become an arms race. You gotta have really high quality art for your cover, make a compelling video for the Kickstarter, sucessfully run a Kickstarter, have a dozen connections to big names in the scene so you can get on their podcasts and streams to promote your stuff, and then spend the next six to twelve months answering e-mails to make sure your product ships. If you make it this far, now you've got to submit your work for the Ennies, maybe bribe a judge or two for good measure, and then prepare an Ennies speech, deliver speech, etc etc etc...

Does anyone remember when making ttrpgs was about making games you thought might be fun to play or had something to say through play?

For people who can't afford to spend their money on games...

And if you claim a copy just to put it on some TTRPG piracy site, you're a dumbass. May you live a long life full of suffering and misfortune.
